Australia’s internet regulator has launched a sweeping crackdown on a popular AI “nudity” service, giving the platform’s operators a 14-day deadline to block children from accessing explicit content.
The eSafety Commissioner has issued a formal compliance order to the Argentina-based provider, which allows users to upload photos of real people and create sexually explicit deepfakes on demand.
Despite being headquartered overseas, the platform attracts almost 40,000 Australian visitors per month after local traffic surged over the past six months.
The enforcement action marks the first time the regulator has used its powers under new age-restricted rules that came into force in March.
The codes require platforms to prevent children from accessing pornography, serious violence and self-harming content.
