Australian government and Anthropic sign memorandum of understanding for AI safety and research

Today, Anthropic signed a memorandum of understanding with the Australian Government to collaborate on AI safety research and support the goals of Australia’s National AI Plan. Our CEO, Dario Amodei, met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a visit to Canberra, Australia, to formalize the agreement. We have also announced A$3 million in partnerships with leading Australian research institutions to use Claude to improve disease diagnosis and treatment and support informatics education and research.

At the heart of the MOU is a commitment to work with the Australian AI Safety Institute. We will share our findings on new model capabilities and risks, participate in joint security assessments and collaborate on research with Australian academic institutions. This reflects the agreements we have with security institutions in the US, UK and Japan, where early access and sharing of technical information has helped governments develop an independent view of where AI is at the forefront…
