The Australian stock market fell at the open as escalating tensions in the Middle East cast doubt on when America and Iran can reach a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and as technology stocks came under more pressure on Wall Street.
The ASX/S&P 200 fell 80.1 points, or 0.9 percent, to 8573.1 in early trading after the United States launched a new round of attacks against multiple targets in Iran overnight. Seven of the local market’s 11 industrial sectors were in negative territory. The Australian dollar traded at $70.01.
