Apple takes on Amazon’s Echo and Ring with new smart home lineup

’s home turf: Apple unveiled a $299 smart display called HomeView that will take on the Echo Show, plus LG-made cameras, a video doorbell and a smart lock that put it in Ring’s core categories for the first time. Amazon has a big head start: about two-thirds of U.S. smart speaker owners have an Amazon device, compared with 7% for Apple.
