Amazon puts €4.8bn of its €16bn German plan for 2027 into AWS Frankfurt

Amazon today said it plans to invest more than €16 billion ($18 billion) in Germany in 2027, with €4.8 billion of that set aside to expand the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) cloud region. The company made the announcement at the Invest in Germany Summit, the federal government’s investor conference in Berlin, where chief global affairs and legal officer David Zapolsky appeared alongside Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

In Short

Amazon told the German government it will spend more than €16 billion in Germany next year on data centers, warehouses, satellite internet and TV shows. Amazon calls Germany one of its most important countries, and this money shapes the cloud computers, delivery network and streaming service that German advertisers and sellers rely on. Only the €4.8 billion for cloud computing has a number attached, so most of the plan cannot yet be checked against what actually gets built.
