WHEATFIELD — Amazon Web Services is planning a $7 billion data center campus in Jasper County, marking another major expansion of the company’s growing presence in northern Indiana and potentially generating more than $1 billion in local tax revenue over the next 15 years.
The proposed development would be built on a 304-acre parcel owned by NIPSCO near the R.M. Schahfer Generating Station in Wheatfield. Company officials say the site was selected in part because of its proximity to existing power infrastructure, a factor expected to reduce development and operational costs.
The project remains contingent on approval from the Jasper County Council and county commissioners before construction can begin.
