Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, that the public will soon be able to access a new software tool that could have real consequences for the artificial intelligence (AI) trade. Called TorchNeuron, the tool lets developers run their existing PyTorch code on Amazon’s Trainium chips with minimal changes, challenging a key aspect of Nvidia‘s (NASDAQ:NVDA) moat.

The company plans to release TorchNeuron as free, open-source software in public beta on Oct. 20.

Missed AI’s “Act 1”? Act 2 Could Be 14x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn’t buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of “Act 1″—the R&D phase. “Act 2” is the global rollout. Continue »

How PyTorch and CUDA work together

To understand why this matters, it helps to understand how AI software and hardware work together.

Many developers build their AI models using PyTorch, a set of development tools that helps engineers write the code that tells a model-in-training how to learn from the vast amounts of data it’s fed.

But that code doesn’t do much without chips doing the actual math that training — and eventually running — the model requires. Software underneath PyTorch connects those operations to the hardware and helps execute them efficiently. On Nvidia GPUs, CUDA fills that role.

A key aspect here is that AI developers can benefit from all that software…
