Airbus and BMW enter into agreements with France’s Mistral to integrate AI into defense and security systems

Airbus has signed a partnership with French AI startup Mistral AI to expand the use of AI in its aviation, defense and space businesses.

The European aerospace giant is aiming to embed artificial intelligence into its commercial aircraft, helicopters, defense and space operations, according to a joint press release issued Thursday.

As part of the agreement, Airbus will gain access to Mistral AI’s full range of products and research, enabling the company to develop tailored AI tools for complex aerospace projects.

Airbus said the partnership will focus on “trustworthy” and “safe” AI, particularly for sensitive defense and aerospace applications.

“This partnership paves the way for the deployment of high-impact, high-value use cases of trustworthy and responsible AI in aerospace,” said Catherine Jestin, executive vice president of digital at Airbus, in a statement.
