Airbnb plans to increase its use of artificial intelligence to improve the user experience for guests and hosts. During a fourth-quarter earnings conference call, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said the company is building an “AI-native experience” to help guests book travel, help hosts with their accommodations and run the company more efficiently. According to Chesky, there is an AI search tool that helps guests book travel that is currently active for a small percentage of users.
In a letter to shareholders posted on Airbnb’s website, the company said it was conducting initial testing of AI-powered search “aimed at giving guests a more natural way to describe what they are looking for and ask questions about the listing and location.” The letter went on to say that the AI search tool will “provide a more comprehensive and intuitive search experience that spans the entire journey,” but the company did not provide a definitive date for when it will be available to the public.
