The City of Perth is considering turning to AI to manage its workload amid staff attrition.

Last month it was revealed that job offers in the city were being rejected and staff were leaving as the local government tried to deal with a damning independent risk assessment.

Since August, eight employees in key leadership and support roles for elected members have resigned, including five since November.

Others have taken extended “unexpected personal leave,” driving staff reductions to what the report calls “high risk.”

Last month the council was told the CEO alliance and governance team was “significantly depleted” so they were struggling to complete basic operations.

Staff recently began recording elected member engagement sessions and budget workshops using Microsoft Copilot.
