Three artificial intelligence-generated songs topped the music charts this week and reached the highest spots on the Spotify and Billboard charts.
According to the streaming service, “Walk My Walk” and “Livin’ on Borrowed Time” by the band Breaking Rust landed at number 1 on Spotify’s “Viral 50” songs in the US, which lists the “most viral songs currently” every day. Around the same time, a Dutch song, We Say No, No, No to an Asylum Center, an anti-migrant anthem by JW “Broken Veteran” protesting the creation of new asylum centers, took the top spot on Spotify’s global version of the viral charts. Breaking Rust also landed in the top 5 of the global charts.
“You can kick stones if you don’t like the way I talk,” goes one lyric from “Walk My Walk,” a seemingly ambiguous phrase that challenges those who reject AI-generated music.
