AI is slowing hiring for some jobs, but demand for human skills is increasing

A new Deloitte report has declared 2026 the “Year of AI,” saying the real “winners” will be organizations that meaningfully combine the strengths of humans and machines.

The major consulting firm’s quarterly employment forecast suggests that AI is reshaping the job market, although not necessarily through job losses.

While 82 occupations were identified as likely to be impacted by AI, there were also several “AI-enabled” occupations predicted to see greater demand when combined with AI, including executives, legislators and life scientists.

David Rumbens, partner at Deloitte Access Economics, says jobs that continue to focus on human skills are more likely to benefit.

“Where AI complements skills such as judgment, creativity and empathy, we may actually see greater demand for these workers.”
