Britain’s cyber agency warns that AI-powered troubleshooting will reveal vulnerabilities that have been buried for years, leaving defenders struggling to keep up.
In a blog post on Friday, Ollie Whitehouse, CTO of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, said organizations should prepare for an impending “wave of patches” caused by a backlog of vulnerabilities that are now being discovered faster than many teams can realistically fix them.
“All organizations have ‘technical debt’; a backlog of technical problems – that is both expensive and time-consuming – because short-term profits are prioritized over developing robust products,” Whitehouse wrote.
“Artificial intelligence, when deployed by sufficiently skilled and knowledgeable individuals, demonstrates the ability to exploit this technical debt across the technology ecosystem at scale and at high speed,” he added.
