At the heart of the scientific-historical-materialist method developed by Karl Marx is the understanding that the objective foundations of the revolution lie in the contradiction between the growth of the productive forces and the social relations within which they have developed.
Over the last century and a half since the first elaboration of this basic concept, this contradiction has come to the fore in the form of economic crises, wars, the intensification of class struggle and social revolution, especially the Russian October Revolution of 1917.
The development of artificial intelligence (or rather, augmented intelligence) and the growing concern about its potential to trigger a major economic and financial crisis show that the contradiction identified by Marx is quickly resurfacing.
