Computational chemistry is entering a new era. The rise of large language models (LLMs) has enabled the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) “agents” that could transform the field from one reserved only for specialists to one open to all interested parties.
In 2025, several preprints introducing new agent frameworks for computational and quantum chemistry were published. Each of the teams developing these platforms has their own personal motivations, but they all share a desire to democratize the field.
