Researchers say the work shows AI’s potential to augment and apply GIS in innovative ways.
A team led by geography researchers at Penn State University has developed and tested AI-powered GIS agents to introduce a conceptual framework for autonomous GIS and explore how the AI paradigm shift is redefining GIS practice.
Using four proof-of-concept agents, researchers demonstrated that they could retrieve geospatial data, perform spatial analysis, and create maps with minimal human intervention.
