That changed on Tuesday when the Cypriots presented a near-final text advocating a ban on AI systems that can generate images, videos or audio “of the intimate areas of an identifiable natural person or of an identifiable natural person engaged in sexually explicit activities.”
The inclusion of a ban is a win for countries like Spain, which had pushed hard for it. EU ambassadors will give the text the green light on Friday.
Members of the European Parliament agreed on Wednesday to include language to ban an “Al system that alters, manipulates or artificially creates realistic images or videos to depict sexually explicit activities or the intimate parts of an identifiable natural person without their consent.”
But the agreement reached at a political meeting on Wednesday said a ban would not apply to companies “that have implemented effective security measures to prevent the creation of such representations and prevent abuse.”
The text is not final yet…
