Accenture has agreed to acquire British artificial intelligence specialist Faculty in a deal valued at $1 billion. This is believed to be the largest purchase by a privately held UK AI startup and a significant expansion of the consultancy’s AI ambitions.
The acquisition places one of the UK’s best-known AI research and deployment companies at the heart of a global professional services group employing more than 800,000 people. It also signals another period of consolidation in the AI sector as large consulting firms compete for scarce technical talent and proven platforms.
Founded in 2014 and based in London, the faculty has earned a reputation for technically challenging work in applied AI. The company positioned itself between pioneering research and live use in complex organizations. The focus was on projects that required both advanced modeling and operational adoption.
