A Transmission Line Brought Google Here – WV MetroNews

News broke early Friday morning: Google has acquired land in Putnam County for a possible data center.

While some — a minority, in my view — are less than enthusiastic, many in Putnam County see the announcement as a clear win… at least that’s the read from the cacophony of social media.

That’s not surprising.

Putnam County has a history of embracing new corporate investment, dating back to Toyota’s decision to locate there. The county’s economy is more diversified than most in West Virginia, and local leaders actively recruit investment with strong community backing.

That approach has paid off — driving new development, raising property values, and generating more tax revenue for schools and public infrastructure, including recreational facilities.

The greater Teays Metroplex — as I like to call it — is a great place to live.

But as welcoming as the community is, that’s not the primary reason Google is looking at Putnam County.
