A multi-agency task force is targeting distracted drivers on Oracle Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A multi-agency task force deployed 50 officers along Oracle Road on Wednesday to crack down on distracted driving.

The task force included officers from the Marana, Oro Valley, Tucson and University of Arizona police departments, as well as representatives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Officers were stationed along Oracle from Grant Road to the county line.

Since the hands-free driving law was implemented in late 2020, TPD officers have issued more than 9,000 citations, including 389 this year. The total does not include citations from other law enforcement agencies.

During the operation, which lasted from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., a 13-person news crew observed six traffic stops on a stretch of Oracle within an hour
