Last week brought a day that will go down in history. On February 5th, Claude Opus 4.6 from Anthropic and GPT-5.3-Codex from OpenAI were released. This may not seem particularly exciting to the layperson, but behind these mysterious names lies a new reality.

What makes these new models so important is the fact that much of the programming work behind them was done by artificial intelligence, not humans. Anthropogenic Insiders claimfor example, that virtually 100 percent of the code behind their products is written by Claude himself. Exactly how much human leadership and oversight goes into this is debatable, but other large AI labs all seem to be on the rise the same trajectory. (Disclosure: I am a member of the Anthropic Economic Advisory Council.)
