Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is committing $1 billion over the next five years to U.S. scientific research, expanding its spending beyond commercial computing into projects involving artificial intelligence, quantum technology, healthcare and energy security.
The money will support research universities, cloud-service providers and programs intended to strengthen the country’s position in quantum computing. Nvidia also plans to participate in the second phase of the federal Genesis Mission, a government initiative focused on accelerating scientific discovery through advanced computing.
Nvidia’s involvement comes as policymakers and technology companies seek to expand domestic computing capabilities for research. The company said the initiative will give researchers greater access to advanced systems that can be used across areas including medicine, energy and materials science.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was also scheduled to receive the nation’s highest science honor from President Donald Trump at an event in Washington. Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, SpaceX (SPCX), Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL) co-founder Sergey Brin and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) CEO Lisa Su were also among the recipients.
The commitment adds another government-linked initiative to Nvidia’s growing U.S. research presence.
