Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) is actively courting former employees, including thousands it laid off over the past year, to return to open positions across its cloud-computing and artificial intelligence divisions. Recruiter emails reviewed by Business Insider show the e-commerce giant offering some alumni a faster path back to a job offer, while in at least one case asking whether its controversial return-to-office mandate had pushed them away.
The outreach underscores Amazon’s urgency in securing AI talent as it competes with Google, OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic. One message from the company’s AI agent organization, led by AWS Vice President Swami Sivasubramanian, invited former workers with machine learning backgrounds to discuss new roles through what a recruiter called “Swami’s Boomerang Reengagement Initiative.”
