Oracle stock is rising as the company agrees to buy fuel cell power from Bloom Energy

oracle (ORCL) The stock rose as much as 8% on Tuesday morning after news that the data center and cloud operator had signed a deal Buy up to 2.8 gigawatts of fuel cell power from the energy supplier Bloom Energy (BE).

Bloom shares rose nearly 20% on Tuesday morning.

The terms of the agreement expand an existing partnership between Larry Ellison’s Oracle and Bloom. Bloom said in a news release that 1.2 gigawatts of fuel cell power capacity is already under contract and the buildout “is underway and will continue into next year.”

Bloom’s modular fuel cell system can be deployed “significantly faster than traditional power solutions, allowing customers to shorten time-to-power and reduce project risk,” Bloom said, citing the delivery of a fuel cell system to Oracle in 55 days last year.

The fuel cells will power on-site data centers and other infrastructure and underpin Oracle’s AI ambitions, Bloom said.
