OpenStack releases 2026.1 ‘Gazpacho’ with focus on VMware replacement, simpler operations

The OpenStack community has released OpenStack 2026.1 Gazpacho.

Techzine reported on Thursday that Gazpacho focuses on simplifying operations, live migration of VMware workloads and strengthening hardware flexibility.

Techzine said responding to demand for VMware replacements is one of the key parts of the update.

The OpenStack community released Dalmatian after Broadcom acquired VMware to absorb demand from users leaving VMware, and the follow-up version Gazpacho is an extension of that strategy.

Nova’s parallel live migration feature is the most requested capability from companies seeking alternatives to VMware. It handles multiple memory transfer connections at the same time to significantly speed up workload moves.
