After launching the “Remix” tool in August in a server-side update, Google Photos is bringing the image-to-cartoon feature to more users in a much wider rollout.
The Remix tool in Google Photos was announced as the company announced several AI generation tools for the gallery app. The bundle of features included Photos’ photo-to-video tool and a new “Create” tab.
Remix allows users to generate cartoon versions of the photos they take and store in Google Photos. The results don’t differ too much from the generated images in Gemini using a “reimagine” prompt of something similar. The difference here is in user flow, as generating a stylized photo is easier from the default gallery app. On top of that, the function is free for users to play around with.
According to Google, Remix is rolling out to 13 regions in a substantial expansion:
