Jorja Smith’s record label has demanded a share of royalties from a TikTok viral song that allegedly used an AI-cloned version of the British singer’s voice.
British dance act Haven’s song “I Run” went viral in October and was set to chart in the UK and US after reaching No. 11 on the US Spotify chart and No. 25 on the platform’s global chart.
It was subsequently banned from streaming services after Smith’s label issued takedown notices, and industry groups, the Recording Industry Association of America and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, claimed that the song violated copyright by impersonating Smith – and by misleading listeners into believing that the song was an unreleased original of hers.
