The global L’Oréal Group is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA, aiming to accelerate and redefine innovation in the beauty industry through AI-powered computational chemistry.

As part of the collaboration, L’Oréal is integrating the NVIDIA ALCHEMI machine learning framework directly into its research and innovation infrastructure. This move enables the creation of an advanced AI engine for developing skincare and beauty products, based on predicting molecular performance and interactions at the atomic level – a step expected to drive breakthroughs in the discovery of new formulations.

The partnership marks a significant shift from the company’s previous focus on AI applications for marketing and advertising optimization toward the core of L’Oréal’s research and development operations. Using the new technology, the company’s scientists can simulate the performance of ingredients and textures in a virtual environment while simultaneously testing thousands of variables.

This approach dramatically shortens the time between a scientific idea and a finished product, accelerating the discovery process by up to 100 times compared to traditional methods. The result is a more agile and faster innovation process that maximizes the potential of the group’s exclusive active ingredients – particularly in the fields of skin protection and premature aging prevention.

The initiative currently focuses on two key areas of skin science: Photoprotection (protection against…
