Xiaomi announced its new flagship smartphones Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro. However, these two phones have only been announced in China, but global rollouts are expected to follow in the first quarter of 2022.
In any case, thanks to this introduction, we know exactly what to expect with global models. the Xiaomi 12 Ultra wasn’t announced during the event, but the Vanilla and ‘Pro’ models did and they’re pretty interesting.
The main differentiator between the Xiaomi 12 & 12 Pro is size
The two phones look basically the same, but they differ in size. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is significantly larger than the Xiaomi 12 because the vanilla model is ideal for anyone who doesn’t want a huge phone.
The two phones are made of metal and glass, but a variant with metal and vegan leather (PU leather) on the back was also presented. Let’s hope this model makes it to global markets as it offers some variety for consumers.
Both smartphones have curved displays and a centered display camera hole. Both have very thin bezels, but no uniform bezels. Their backs are also curved, while the rear camera module is placed in the upper left corner.
Both devices have three cameras on the back and one on the front, although the cameras are not the same. The camera module itself protrudes a bit and looks a bit unique, it’s not difficult to see, although it’s not noticeable like that of the Pixel 6 or the Galaxy S21.
These two phones have their similarities in the specifications department as well, although they are not the same. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powers both phones, Qualcomm’s brand new flagship processor.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro has a larger and sharper display
The Xiaomi 12 has a 6.28 inch FullHD + display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The Xiaomi 12 Pro, on the other hand, has a 6.73-inch QHD + display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 480 Hz.
The Xiaomi 12 has a 4,500 mAh battery, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro has a 4,600 mAh battery. The charging speeds are also different, the Vanilla model supports wired charging with 67W, while the ‘Pro’ model offers wired charging with 120W. However, both devices support wireless charging at 50 W.
The camera setups are different but quite powerful
The Xiaomi 12 has 50, 13 and 5 megapixel cameras. Wide, ultrawide and macro cameras different from those of the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The Xiaomi 12 Pro contains three 50 megapixel units, wide, ultrawide and telephoto cameras, but has a macro mode thanks to the ultrawide camera. More on this in the data sheet article. A 32-megapixel front camera is included with both smartphones.
Android 12 is pre-installed on both smartphones, with MIUI 13. For more information on their specifications, see our special Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro Specification item. That being said, Xiaomi 12 prices start at CNY 3,699 (USD 580) in China, while prices for the 12 Pro start at CNY 4,699 (USD 738).
If Xiaomi plans the same thing as last year, the Xiaomi 12 Pro may not make it to the global market. However, Xiaomi could choose to launch the Xiaomi 12 Ultra alongside the Xiaomi 12 instead.
There’s still no word on the global launch, but Xiaomi is almost certainly planning that for the first quarter of 2022.
