According to recent reports, two new features are coming to WhatsApp. It looks like we will soon be able to share photos and videos in their “best quality”. In other words, it is possible that WhatsApp will let us send these without compression.
WABetaInfo writes that there are two new functions for WhatsApp and that these are currently being developed for Android. In fact, it’s the same compression-related, just applied to photos or Videos. The new feature is designed to allow us to control the amount of compression that is applied to the content we share. Judging by the screenshots, we can choose between the options Auto, Best Quality and Data Saving Mode.
There is currently no way to adjust the photo and video quality on WhatsApp, as is the case with Viber, for example. You can only change the extension of a file to send it as a document rather than a picture or video. But the upcoming feature will save us the hassle and give us more control over the content we share. We can choose the data saver option when the connection is bad or we need to save data. On the other hand, the “Best Quality” mode lets us share our content in all its glory – at least I think.
It is not entirely clear what “best quality” means. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp sends your content in “the best available quality”. I am assuming that this means “least compressed”. But it is possible that we can actually send photos and videos without Compression. WhatsApp’s parent company Facebook has yet to confirm the new feature and what exactly it includes, and we’ll keep you updated.
