TEresa Lim has one of Australia’s most recognizable voices. For 23 years she has been the voice behind radio and television advertising, selling listeners everything from baby food to Test cricket. But despite its extensive portfolio, it is increasingly worried that it could be replaced by AI.
It’s a reasonable fear. AI has been blamed for the loss of more than 1,000 jobs in Australia in recent months. In Lim’s case, companies that had previously hired her as a voice actress could now use an AI-generated dupe created from just a 15-second clip of her speech.
“It’s frightening not just for voice actors but for the entire Australian public because there is currently no legislation that requires this…”
