After months of heated debate and previous attempts to limit the use of large language models on Wikipedia, volunteer editors on March 20 accepted a new policy banning their use to create articles for the online encyclopedia.
“Text generated by large language models (LLMs) often violates several of Wikipedia’s core content policies.” Wikipedia’s new guidelines say. “For this reason Using LLMs to generate or rewrite article content is prohibitedexcept as noted below.”
