Oracle is reportedly having trouble getting employees to move to its newest office in Nashville. Despite alleged promises of tens of thousands of dollars in relocation incentives, as well as the offer of a futuristic design and an on-site Nobu restaurant, staff are refusing to move to the “world headquarters,” which company founder Larry Ellison called the “center of our future.” The reason: a possible upper limit on their future salaries.According to a report from Fortune (via Bloomberg), employees are hesitant to move to the Tennessee-based “world headquarters” because tech workers have financial concerns and fear of demotions in “pay grades.” The city was placed in a lower geographic wage bracket than California, meaning workers in Nashville are paid less for the same work than in Silicon Valley.Employees fear their maximum earnings will be capped by the move to Nashville.
