If you visit a VPN service’s website, you’re almost guaranteed to see huge discounts – sometimes more than 90% off.
It’s always sounded too good to be true (and it really is), but because they all do it, it’s become the norm. And as I always explain, these crazy-sounding deals are possible because they’re based on the price of a one-month subscription.
Compared to multi-year subscriptions, one-month plans are very inexpensive. Typically, a single month of VPN usage will cost you around £8-12 (same in US dollars), but a two-year subscription might only cost you £40-60 / $50-70.
A minority pay for a month to try the service before subscribing for longer, or because they only need it for a short-term vacation, business trip, or something else. The fact of the matter is that no one subscribes long-term, and that’s why the discounts are arguably fake news.
