With Sony out of the picture for E3 2019, the console giant competition narrows down to Microsoft and Nintendo. Both companies have finished their press conferences, so which company won the console rivalry at E3 2019?
Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference, which was held first, had quite a few reveals that entertained and surprised fans. During their show, actor Keanu Reeves went on stage after he was revealed to be a part of the “Cyberpunk 2077” universe.
Aside from this major reveal, Microsoft’s show introduced other games that could potentially become multi-platform releases such as FromSoftware’s “Elden Ring” and Gearbox Software’s “Borderlands 3.”
Aside from the upcoming big titles, Microsoft also had some exclusive reveals related to the Xbox console. The company confirmed some details about their next console, Project Scarlett. The upcoming console will feature specs that can run 8k resolution and support backwards compatibility for up to four generations behind.
Lastly, a new “Halo” entry called “Halo Infinite” has been confirmed, which also unveiled the return of the iconic Master Chief. Gameplay for this title has yet to be revealed, but many fans are waiting for it.
The “Halo Wars 2” title that preceded “Halo Infinite” was a real-time strategy game that is significantly different from its first-person shooter roots.
The Japanese company has also finished its press conference. While Nintendo doesn’t have its follow-up to the Switch yet, the company’s list of upcoming game releases is something to watch out for.
For its titles, CD Projekt Red’s “Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” has been confirmed for the portable console. While graphics quality has taken a slight dip in this port, taking the award-winning open world game on the go is too good an opportunity to pass up.
Meanwhile, Nintendo’s exclusive games will also have some new content and entries. “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” will have two DLC characters, namely, Banjo and Kazooie pair and the “Dragon Quest 11” protagonist. The characters will be added to the game this fall 2019.
New information about the upcoming “Legend of Zelda” entries were also dropped. The “Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” features a cutesy dungeon crawler gameplay and will be released by fall 2019. In addition, the “Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild” has a sequel in development to be released at an unspecified date.
So far, Nintendo wins E3 2019 due to the wealth of upcoming exclusives and big name releases for their console. Like previous years, Microsoft’s show is still full of titles that’ll come out on other platforms. However, Microsoft has outdone its own show after its reveals for its new console, new “Halo” entry and Reeves capturing the whole crowd on-stage.
