WhatsApp ends support for these ‘very old’ iPhones – Times of India

According to a report by WABeta Info, the company is now warning iPhone Users with iOS 10 or iOS 11 that they need to update their iPhones to continue using WhatsApp after October 24th. However, most iPhone users probably won’t be affected since iOS 10 and iOS 11 are running on two very old devices Apple Devices – iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. The recommendation means that users of these iPhones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp after October 24th.

For now, users who have an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s running iOS 12 need not worry as the company will continue to support them. WhatsApp has also updated its FAQ page with these guidelines. “We support iOS 12 or later, but we recommend using the latest version available,” the company says.

* Use the latest iOS version: WhatsApp recommends users to use the latest version of iOS available for their phones.
* No support for jailbroken or unlocked devices: WhatsApp specifically restricts the use of jailbroken or unlocked devices. The company says it cannot provide support for devices running modified versions of the iPhone operating system, as these modifications may affect the functionality of the user’s device.
* Phone must have SMS or calling capability: In order to set up a new WhatsApp account properly, the user’s phone must be able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process. WhatsApp doesn’t support setting up new accounts on Wi-Fi only devices.
