The macOS Sequoia update from Apple will support older Intel-based Mac computers, despite rumors suggesting otherwise. While these Macs won’t have access to Apple Intelligence AI functionality, they will still receive new features such as iPhone screen mirroring and window tiling. Most Intel Macs running macOS Sonoma will be eligible for the Sequoia update, with exceptions being the 2018 and 2019 MacBook Air models.

The following Intel Mac models are eligible for the macOS Sequoia update: MacBook Air (2020 and later), MacBook Pro (2018 and later), iMac (2019 and later), Mac Mini (2018 and later), iMac Pro (2017 and later), Mac Pro (2019 and later), and Mac Studio (2022). Users can verify their Mac model and operating system version by checking the “About this Mac” menu.

iPhone screen mirroring and window tiling are two key features that Intel Mac owners can expect from the macOS Sequoia update. iPhone screen mirroring allows users to mirror their iPhone screen on their Mac, facilitating easier interaction with iPhone apps. This feature will also support drag-and-drop file transfer between devices. Window tiling enables users to effortlessly organize windows on their desktop by snapping them to specific locations, enhancing multitasking capabilities.

In addition to these major features, smaller improvements will be introduced to Intel Macs with the macOS Sequoia update. These include message scheduling and effects, webcam customization with virtual backgrounds, enhanced password enforcement through iCloud Keychain, calendar reminders integration, and calculator history display.

While Intel Macs will benefit from most of the features coming with the macOS Sequoia update, they will not have access to audio transcription in Notes, Reader Mode summaries in Safari, and improved game support, which are exclusive to Apple Silicon Macs. Overall, Intel Mac users can look forward to a range of new functionalities and enhancements with the upcoming macOS Sequoia update.
