The symbiosis between data governance and cloud computing is obvious to any company with significant cloud investments. The cloud has a wealth of resources that improve data governance, which is critical to regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and the long-term profitability of data assets.

At the same time, however, the data governance trademarks of metadata management, data cataloging, and data management are required to maximize the usefulness of the cloud by visualizing where data is and using it for individual use cases such as customer 360s, real-time product or service recommendations, and advanced Analytics.

While it is difficult to say which of these skills will be more beneficial to the company, they are clearly complementary.
