Westpac CEO Anthony Miller says artificial intelligence could be the catalyst for a productivity boom and the government should focus on the economic benefits, even amid growing public concern and distrust of the emerging technology.
Miller said technology is one of the “classic keys to productivity,” and as the May federal budget approaches, he called on Treasurer Jim Chalmers to “take advantage of the opportunities and benefits” of AI, such as expanding government services without increasing spending, which would outweigh risks such as job losses.
