WA Police Commissioner Colonel Blanch says a debate over how the state’s new AI-powered traffic cameras will penalize motorists for passenger seatbelt violations is a worthwhile debate and that all options are on the table.
The new cameras have been issuing fines since October for traffic violations such as speeding, cell phone use and improper seat belt use.
However, reports from the ABC last week revealed a horde of angry road users who had been fined on multiple occasions, sometimes on the same day, for seatbelt violations by passengers that they were unaware of or unable to prevent.
