Gartner has advised VMware customers to take active steps to avoid lock-in after the Broadcom acquisition as the market anticipates product stagnation and price increases.
While initial reaction to the news of the acquisition was decidedly mixed, extensive research has now confirmed that many IT pros are concerned about the Broadcom VMware deal – particularly those who are already Broadcom customers.
Broadcom certainly has form for this: Gartner received “an influx of midsize and smaller customers looking to churn due to exceptional price hikes and support challenges” after Broadcom bought CA Technologies and Symantec.
Accordingly, the market research firm recommends that current VMware customers ensure they aren’t stuck with long-term contracts they can’t get out of or products that don’t change when customers need it.
