In the four months since Broadcom announced it would spend $61 billion to buy VMware, two of the company’s top channel executives have left — Bill Swales and Sandy Hogan — to take on positions at other companies.

The disruption has catapulted Ricky Cooper, vice president and head of VMware’s Worldwide Partner and Commercial Organization, to the role of “channel chief,” the liaison between the virtualization leader and its vast ecosystem of partners around the world.

VMware’s channel is under intense scrutiny as partners have spoken openly about their concerns about Broadcom, which has historically neglected small and medium-sized customers as part of its profitability strategy when acquiring software companies. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan has repeatedly said that the company plans to use the channel.
