Intel CEO Bob Swan, formerly CFO, will step down on February 15th
Intel announced on January 13th that its board of directors has named Pat Gelsinger, currently CEO of VMware, as CEO effective February 15th. VMware’s board issued a statement announcing that it has started a search for a new CEO. Gelsinger will remain on the VMware board of directors after leaving on February 12. Zane Rowe, VMware CFO, will serve as interim CEO.
Gelsinger previously worked for Intel for 30 years and initially joined the company at the age of 18. The announcement received praise from analysts that Intel would be more of a technologist than a finance-oriented manager.
In a communication to Intel employees, Gelsinger wrote: “My experience at Intel has shaped my entire career and I am forever grateful to this company. At such a crucial time for innovation, where the digitization of everything is accelerating, Intel will be back home as CEO.
