When hyper-converged infrastructure provider Nutanix announced the hiring of Rajiv Ramaswami as its new CEO on December 9, the company had found a successor for the company’s co-founder and CEO Dheeraj Pandey, who revealed his own plans for retirement in early 2020.

But just 19 days later, the new employee hit the headlines, and not in a good way, when VMware, where Ramaswami served as chief operating officer for products and cloud services for four years, sued Ramaswami, claiming he had violated its legal requirements violating fiduciary and contractual duties and obligations during his job transition process. VMware filed its lawsuit against Ramaswami in the California Supreme Court in Santa Clara County on December 28th.
