Virgin Galactic announced on Friday that it would be the first company to receive Federal Aviation Administration permission to take customers into space.

The FAA’s decision came about a month after Virgin Galactic’s successful test flight of the VSS Unity, a model of the company’s SpaceShipTwo-class. Two pilots of the VSS Unity ascended to an altitude of 85.5 miles before landing on Earth May 22, completing the company’s third manned suborbital spaceflight.
