It is often observed that if the internet were built from scratch today, many things would be done differently.

Vapor IO, the startup that has built state-of-the-art data centers in the US over the past few years, is a company that deals with the “re-architecture of the Internet”. In collaboration with VMware, Dell, DriveNets, MobiledgeX and PacketFabric, an organization called the Open Grid Alliance was recently founded with the stated goal of formalizing what this future architecture, a widespread, edge-oriented network, looks like.
