WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., Is a major proponent of a law banning the installation of permanent security fences and barriers around the U.S. Capitol following the January 6 events.
Van Hollen, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, R-Mo., And U.S. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DD.C., sponsor a new federal law to prevent permanent fences from being installed around the Capitol.
“This Capitol is the citadel of democracy and we shouldn’t turn it into a fortress,” Van Hollen said on Thursday, March 25th, during a briefing on the legislation.
Temporary barbed wire and barbed wire fences were installed around the Capitol after Trump supporters stormed Congress on Jan. 6 and were unhappy with President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. Some of these fences are shabby.
