Valentine’s Day is the most dreaded day of the year for us singles. Once February rolls around, the overwhelming stress of finding someone to spend the day with takes over. Listening to your kidnapped friends talk to their partners about their plans makes you want to bang your head against the wall. Even feeling sorry for your fellow singles doesn’t heal the wounds. So what do you do?

For the past five years, I’ve spent Valentine’s Day with someone, be it a girlfriend, a crush, or a nasty situation; I wasn’t alone. This year it was different. My friends were doing their own things, all of my roommates were off campus, and I was, for once, focused on myself.

I woke up in the early hour of 1pm and opened my phone to see everyone’s Valentine’s Day posts. Wonderful. As I scrolled a little further, I saw people posting their friends, their pets, and themselves.
