USAID Administrator Samantha Power announced a new funding of $5 million to enhance cooperation between Amazon Web Services and the Government of Armenia. Power made the announcement during a joint statement with Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia. She highlighted the importance of technology in advancing Armenia’s sustainability and commended the Armenian government’s efforts in digitalization, technology, and cybersecurity.

Power expressed gratitude to Amazon for assisting Armenia in realizing its vision of strengthening digital systems, digitizing public services, and enhancing resilience to cyber threats. She emphasized the need for secure and robust digital systems to withstand cyberattacks while respecting privacy and personal data. The $5 million funding will bolster the collaboration between Amazon Web Services and the Armenian government to support digital transformation, infrastructure development, and cloud services.

The partnership aims to cultivate expertise, offer innovative technologies to citizens, and safeguard personal data. Amazon Web Services will facilitate rapid development and digitization of systems in Armenia, providing training in cloud computing and cybersecurity. The cooperation is expected to enhance information reliability for Armenian citizens and enable the government to deliver accurate information effectively.

Power highlighted that the initiative by the international business community has the potential to spark interest in Armenia, create job opportunities, and boost economic growth for families. She emphasized that the collaboration aligns with Armenia’s goal of establishing an enduring democracy that serves its people effectively.
