The US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security has added 27 companies to its list of companies banned from doing business with the US because they threaten national security – and one of the companies is with the Chinese joint venture H3C connected by HPE.

An advance notice [PDF] the bans lists a company called New H3C Semiconductor Technologies Co., Ltd on the grounds that it “supports the military modernization of the People’s Liberation Army.”

The addresses given by Uncle Sam for this semiconductor business match those on the website of New H3C, the Chinese company established as a joint venture between HPE and Tsinghua Unigroup to build network products. H3C remains the exclusive provider of HPE servers, storage and related technical services in China.
